They’re playing games with your gun rights in St Paul!

Minnesota House Leadership just killed Constitutional Carry.

As you know, Minnesota Gun Rights along with our members and supporters, has been fighting hard to pass Constitutional Carry (HF309) in Minnesota.

From our founding in 2013, restoring Constitutional Carry for gun owners has been one of our two primary policy objectives.

And along the way, it’s been our mission to kill any attempts made at attacking the gun rights of our members and supporters.

Thanks to the support and militant activism of our thousands of members like you from across the state, that goal has been extremely successful.

That was proven in the 2014 elections when gun-grabbers like Bloomberg-endorsed Will Morgan, Joe Radinovich and Tim Faust went down in flames to voters after MGR did aggressive educational campaigns.

And just in 2016, Senators Rod Skoe and Lyle Koenen felt the fury of gun owners and were booted from office for voting AGAINST Constitutional Carry on April 23, 2015.

Now, with “pro-gun majorities” that gun owners delivered in both the House and the Senate, your voices have been THUNDERING for major overhauls for your gun rights.

And it’s clear that the biggest issue in gun politics in America today is Constitutional Carry.

It’s on the move everywhere – almost literally.

New Hampshire passed it last month.

Our Second Amendment brothers and sisters in North Dakota just watched their governor sign it into law last week.

The Washington Examiner says that Wisconsin is likely to pass Constitutional Carry into law in the coming weeks.

Michigan House Republican Leadership came out just today with Constitutional Carry, claiming that the Mitten State will soon join the ranks.

In just the last year and a half, we’ve seen the number of Constitutional Carry states skyrocket to 13!

So if you’re keeping count, that’s over a quarter of America that no longer has to beg or pay fees and taxes to exercise their Right to Keep and Bear Arms!

Right here in Minnesota, we’ve been activating and mobilizing gun owners all across the state on this issue.

In fact, there are tens of thousands of hard-working, law-abiding gun owners that are rip-raring to go to get Constitutional Carry passed into law!

So make no mistake about it when I say that House “leadership” knows that gun owners want Constitutional Carry!

Your constant barrage of calls, emails and Facebook messages have been pouring into the capitol in St Paul since the session started, and for that I can’t thank you enough!

But today I’ve got bad news to report.

Insiders at the capitol tell us that Speaker of the House Kurt Daudt and Majority Leader Joyce Peppin have KILLED Constitutional Carry for 2017.

Sources also tell us that they’re desperate to pass a gun bill to get out from under the tidal-wave of pressure that you and I have created.

But let me repeat that: In response to all this pressure to pass Constitutional Carry, Speaker Daudt and Majority Leader Peppin have killed it.

And they know very well that our members and supporters don’t take a blow on the chin like that from ANYONE.

So how are they going to get out from the blowback from angry gun owners?

Enter Stand-Your-Ground.

Since our founding, Minnesota Gun Rights has been working to get Stand-Your-Ground law passed in Minnesota.

For those who don’t know, Stand-Your-Ground would do three things.

1. Stand-Your-Ground would remove the “duty to retreat” requirement in Minnesota code.

No longer would law-abiding citizens be forced to flee from a violent attacker before using the force necessary to defend themselves or their families.

2. Stand-Your-Ground would provide criminal prosecution immunity in the event of a self-defense shooting.

This means that unless there is probable cause, a law abiding gun owner would not be easily prosecuted by an anti-gun prosecutor looking to make a name for themselves in a politically motivated trial.

3. Stand-Your-Ground law would provide immunities against frivolous civil lawsuits as well.

This simply means that if a violent criminal attacks you as you walk out of a grocery store some evening and you’re forced to use your firearm to defend yourself, that criminal or their family will NOT be able to sue you for all you’re worth in civil court.

Those are the three legs to the tripod that is historically Stand-Your-Ground law.

And this is where it begins to get tricky.

Desperate to pass a gun bill to get out from under the pressure caused from KILLING Constitutional Carry, House leadership knows they have to bring forward a “consolation prize” for gun owners.

That consolation prize they’re bringing forward is a watered-down Stand-Your-Ground bill.

You see, this version of Stand-Your-Ground does NOT include civil immunity protections for gun owners who are forced to use a firearm in a self-defense shooting.

What this means for gun owners across Minnesota is that if you’re forced to defend yourself against a violent attack, the attacker or even family members of the attacker can sue you in civil court!

And in today’s day and age, it’s entirely possible that they might win, wiping out every financial resource you’ve worked your whole life to acquire.

Make no mistake about it, a true Stand-Your-Ground would be a step in the right direction.

But removing the “duty to retreat” doesn’t go far enough if you’re forced to cut checks to the family members of your attacker for the rest of your life.

That’s why I’m asking you to call Speaker Daudt’s office and Majority Leader Peppin’s office right away.

Tell them that you’re tired of being played for a fool.

Tell them to pass Constitutional Carry (HF309) out of the Public Safety Committee and send it to the Rules committee so that it can be put on the floor for a vote!

Then tell them to put civil immunity into HF238 and pass a REAL Stand-Your-Ground bill that removes the duty to retreat and provides criminal AND civil protections for gun owners!
